I'm pleased with the way the Yokohamas are wearing, despite the early season gossip mills spouting rubbish about at least one new tyre per meeting rolleyes.gif

Question is how far can you wear them down before they loose their performance? My rear tyres are almost slick now, theory and using Avons might suggest this is beneficial for increased grip but is this the case with Yoko's?

Thanks, AJC

i think it depends on the car realy or how you like it to drive, when its not doing what you want, change them and see!i will say that in my opinion when its wet you realy need a brand new set and they dont appear to work in the wet for more than 1 meeting, others may disagree ,but no 2 cars or drivers are the same so what works for 1 wont work for everybodyjust my 2pennuth smile.gif

a lot of drivers appear to be running near slicks on the inside but i dont know if anyone is running complete slick tyres they seem to work better when they are fairly new unsure.gif

Pre season gossip mills claimed up to 3 new tyres per meeting rolleyes.gif , pleased to say that barring damage to tyre walls (which are like putty) I'm onto my 8th meeting with two of my original tyres - just have to swap them around a bit.

Main reason why I asked is from starting off on new tyres the car seemed to improve meeting after meeting but had a not so good meeting recently and put it down to tyres been quite worn (you've got to blame something). Think I proved my theory wrong though as last meeting I ran very worn tyre on inside front with nearly new one on outside front and the front of the car was better than it's ever been.

Confused yet?

We'll just keep trying - you can take loads of advice/opinions but sometimes you can't beat good old trial and error, plenty of perseverence and you get what's right for you in the end.

Just to note a point - at 8th June Barford Polley 38 off loaded a pile of only slightly worn Yokies offering them at £5 each. Logic was that you only use a set once in the wet then flog them. Suppose it depends on the size of your wallet though!

Listening too two racers today its still a learning curve for all, they seem almost random, it has to be said thought that it appears to have bunched up the grades!
