Can any PC boffins point me in the right direction.

I bought a new pc about 5 weeks ago. Some super duper thing with quad core technology mellow.gif
at first it was running very fast. I do not download anything. Im only on here, flee bay and watching twos on youtube.

Now when i try to watch a race on youtube, the little pointer on the bottom starts then stops as if its trying to load the film.

I have tried the free version of kaspersky and AVG. both scan my pc but nothing found.

would it work if i made a recovery disc and rebooted the whole thing mad.gif

If the size of the movie file on You Tube is large it is possible you may get this. When it temporarily stops it is 'buffering' another chunk of the movie to your PCs memory. Does the problem show up on short clips as well?

You havn't mentioned which operating system you have although I assume it is Vista as the PC is new. If it is only slow when connected to the internet I would normally advise clearing out all the temp internet files which have built up but as you've only had the PC a few weeks its unlikely there has been such a build up to slow the machine down. It won't do any harm anyway - when you are in Internet Explorer click on Tools, then Internet options then Delete Files. Every website you visit creates a temp file on the hard disk so that next time you visit it won't take so long to load - these files build up over time and can slow the machine down.

This may not be your problem but it is worth a try anyway. dry.gif

Or try going to start then right click on my computer then click properties then go to adavanced then there should be a bit called performance then a bit under it called settings click that then select adjust for best performance then click apply then it should run faster, worked for me anyway.

Anyway just my suggestion .

As Franco has said, it sounds like the clip is just buffering, what I do when I watch anything on youtube is let it go through once then when you watch it the second time it doesn't stop and will play all the way through.

Thanks for the help so far...

I bought this pc because i did not want to be waiting around for the clip to load.

This work ok for the 1st 4 weeks. I could play a clip and it would play straight away.

To give you an idea how slow it is, when i clicked on the barford photo's on ftooz.co.uk from last sunday it took about 20-30 minutes to upload the pictures.

Im running Vista

i would be more inclined to disconect your modem for a few minutes and then reconnect it...works a treat on virgin when it starts to run slow.

Are you on broadband or dial up connection?

Are you running Kasperky and AVG Free, or did you remove them after you checked for viruses? 2 anti viruses running at the same time will pretty much lock a system.

Also go to you start menu and go to "windows updates" if it is downloading updates that too will slow your connection down. The timeline of when it started slowing down could indicate that its download Vista Service Pack 1, although I've had no problems with mine, thats not to say someone else won't have problems. If your on dial up and windows updates is doing big updates, that will eat up your connection bandwidth, try leaving the machine on when you aren't using it until it finishes the updates. A common new computer problem is that it starts doing updates, people get fed up with it turn it off, and it never really catches up on its updates.

I'd also suggest trying a different browser, if your using Internet Explorer then try installing Mozilla Firefox, or Opera (search google for mozilla firefox, or mozilla browser, both free downloads). IE7 has a phishing filter which I found makes it drag.

Hope that gives you a few pointers.

Bear in mind that even the most powerful PC is limited by the internet connection.
If your connection is slow or there is a lot of traffic online at the same time as you, downloads will be compromised. Think driving a Ferrari on the M25 at rush hour !

You can check the speed of your broadband link - there are a number of websites offfering this but here is the one on the BBC site - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7416471.stm

It is unlikely your results will be close to the service you are paying for - e.g. if you pay for an 8Mb service then don't expect the results to be up there at 8Mb! However if the result is a long way short of that then you have a good case to shout at your ISP about poor service. Test the connection over a number of days though to establish some consistency before you challenge them.

You havn't mentioned if other programs on the PC are slow - is it only the internet? If everything is slow, i.e. internet and all other programs, the problem would appear to be the PC itself but if it is only when you are on the web then the most likely culprit is your broadband connection.
