HUGHES ON TWOS- 07-13-2008
I don't get to the racing much these days...but i do keep in touch on here. Daz told me last season that he was building a new one for Barry. First time I've seen it (see attached photo - thanks Spikey.)

How does it go for the 'Who-meister?' What does everyone think to the retro wing? What was the idea behind it and is Barry getting the results with it?

needs a big wing ! but what i no wacko.gif does anyone the reason he put a small wing on ?

Seems to go very well, throws it what seems to be very hard into corners but hugs the kerb and comes out on a perfect line. Time will tell once his personal settings are how he wants them.

No idea about the car...but thats an awesome picture lol

The car does seem to go very well and it looks excellent! i like it!

if you can drive then you can drive and he can, then maybe the better straight line speed aerodynamics will kick in........maube it will only work in dry weather on the tarmac but i i said if you are a good driver on the corners then you may get extra pace

Its a very pretty car, a blast from the past, from when bazza was in short shorts. it doesn't need a wing, its just a case of drivers being sheep.

The small wing has been tested in a wind tunnel by a good freind of mine to help straight line speed also because the new yoki's have so much more grip it doesn't need the big wing to get around the corners! biggrin.gif

Its taken 2 year's to design and build this car ready for the new tyre's and there was never a plan to have a wing on it! and i doubt there will ever be a wing on it! may be the current small wing may be removed 1day. ph34r.gif

Change is inevitable!

REMINDS ME OF MALC LOCKE STYLE CARS. HE STILL MADE HIS SHIFT EVEN WITHOUT AN AEROFOIL. SAVES SPENDING A COUPLE OF HUNDRED QUID ON AN AEOFOIL ALL THE TIME. HAVE ALWAYS PERSONALLY FELT THE ROOF WING MAKES VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE. JUST A MOBILE ADVERTISING BOARDING. BET THE FUEL ECONOMY IS BETTER WITHOUT IT.

you forget tha the big wing is a great shockabsorber when you roll on your roof

you`ll either love it or hate it me i love it and think the big wings should be banned and we all go retro, hell that way we could sneak over to speedworth and race biggrin.gif, did hear a rumour that the big wing only creates downforce at a speed above 90mph so maybe we are all wasting our time, sorry bossman not tryin to put you out of a job see times are hard for you as the striping on the lorry suggests biggrin.gif wink.gif

An interesting article on this topic has been kicking about for a long time,

http://www.shortcircuitmag.info/sc_feat_aerofoils.htm

One of the big advantages of ofsetting or sliding the wing forward has always been to get air underneath the wing and actually use the wing's profile to generate downforce, instead of just working as an angled plate.

They may well be on to something. F2 has been a tyre-limited formula for a long time, so it really made more sense to spend time on softening tyres than tweaking the aerodynamics! Maybe the new tyres will mean a shift towards "proper" aerodynamics?

I seem to remember Daz Kitson running a "splitter" on the front of his F2 many years ago...

thompa- 07-15-2008
I'm sure Mark wareham tried a splitter too, There's a pic of him at racewall, Probably the last one he made before he sold the jigs to burgoyne

jeffo190- 07-15-2008
blimey thompa you've got something right for a change laugh.gif
mark did try a splitter on the last wareham elite, it was'nt to generate down force.
he just thought it would look good laugh.gif
on the subject of that car does anybody know of its whereabouts. i know mark sold the car to james thackra who sold it to someone from wales i think.
it was last seen in manchester about three years ago!!
