The 7th April is the 40th anniversary of Jim Clark's fatal accident at Hockenheim. He was and always will be my ultimate sporting hero and was probably the finest driver this country ever produced. For the 'more mature' racing fans like myself, the day he died was a bit like the JFK shooting - eveyone seems to remember where they were when they heard the news. I was 14 at the time and, ironically, I was at the stock cars at Cowdenbeath which was the norm on a Sunday afternoon for my parents and myself. Roy Cecil, the promoter at that time, came on the PA and announced that the news had just been broadcast on the radio. The stadium literally fell silent as the feeling was "surely that's wrong, how could that happen to Jim Clark?"
