I've just decided I want to have a dabble at making my own DVD's but I am having trouble burning the disc correctly. I thought I had followed the steps correctly but the finished disc will not play in my home DVD player, although it will play OK in my PC.

Here's a run down on what I have done so far.

Downloaded (thru legit site and I paid for the download) movie in DivX (avi) format
Then I spilt the file using TMPGEnc to create the .m2v and wave files
Ran both of those files through TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the required Audio_TS and Video_TS
Opened up Nero 6 Burning ROM, selected make new DVD Movie, added the files (although Audio file not needed as already exists), checked to make sure all the Video_TS files had gone into the right folder and then hit Burn. Nero said the burn process was successful and the data is on the disc but when I try to watch it in my home theatre system rolleyes.gif it either searches for the disc for ages or comes up saying 'No Disc". As said above the movie will play OK in my PC.

I have a Dual Layer DVD Writer and used DVD+R Double Layer 8.5GB data discs.

Can anybody who is a whizz at DVD Burning offer any advice?

Cheers, Gaz

Gary are you sure that your DVD player takes +R discs, not all players taker +R or -R some will only take one or the other.

Will try to find out now Sharon but my player has not rejected anything in the past.

My DVD Writer in the PC is this

TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202N (Samsung)

if that means anything to anybody

If your unsure about the DVD player, try playing it through the computer on Nero Showtime, or something similar. There is no reason why it shouldn't play on the drive that burnt it, although the computer will pick up more formats than the DVD player, so just becuase it works on the computer doesn't gaurentee it will work on the DVD player.

Have you tried more than one film? it could be corrupted somewhere through the process.

Could just be a dodgy dvd R, I know in the past I have had a dodgy batch of DVD R's that wouldn't play in the player but would on the pc, tried a different brand etc and never had the same problem.

I know that when recording on a set top DVD recorder you have to 'finalise' the disk before it will play on another DVD player but as you are burning the disk on your PC that shouldn't be an issue here I'd have thought.

If you can't get a solution on here try posting the problem on the AV Forums at http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php - a lot of knowledgeable bods on that forum who should be able to help. You'll need to regsiter first before you can post.

p.s. if you do post on the AV Forum, tell them the make/model of your home theatre DVD player as well in case there is an issue with it playing +R format disks.

Thanks for the help and advice guys and gals.

Still got no further forward but will keep trying. I am going to download another film and try it on some -R discs. All the hooky movies I have "bought off mates" in the past have been on -R discs so might be something in that. I have had grief with movies off the likes of Limewire and Ares before so decided to buy legit ones.

Just in case anybody wants to have a look this is where I am downloading the movies from zml.com. You create a free account and add funds to it. It's an American site and the movies are $2.99, so thats about 150 Great British pennies.

Thanks for the link Gary. I have never tried downloading films from the web - always worried about the PC crashing halfway through but I must give that site a try. wink.gif

Up to now I have just used the tried and tested (but not exactly 'legit') method of renting movies from a well know online provider and copying using DVD Shrink! unsure.gif

Sorted it!

I downloaded and "acquired" a license for Super DVD Creator. This re-jigged all the files and burnt the DVD using it's own burner onto some DVD-R discs.

Thanks for all the input guys

Love you!

Looks like you got the problem sorted out yourself mate - no need to thank us!
I might give you a shout if I have problems trying that zml.com download thingy. wink.gif
