is there much difference in f2 cars what would be a good starter car which is easy too spares for advice please smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Randall are a good starter car for the simple reason that you'll always find advice from fellow racers, the spares are easy to come by and readily available. Higmans are also a wise choice too but really it all depends on your budget.
Just make sure you buy a straight car thats well maintained unlike what we did thinking we'd bought a bargain to realise it was a pig from bend in chassis to bodged repairs etc. Even had illegal engine so we had to have one built as too many people ask good money for tired engines etc.
Try and spend as much as possible with a good spares package as you can spend thousands on spares like shockers 100 quid each, gearboxes 60 quid upwards, wheels tyres the lists endless and it soon mounts up. Diffs can range from 40 quid to 150 then slippers are more again.
Hope I haven't rambled too much and hope it helps mate

The spares package is sometimes more useful than the car as being a novice you always tend to pick up more damage til you learn a little track craft. You may think your flying til the red and superstars are hammering your back bumper in 6 laps then clear off into the distance.
Time in the seat is the best way to learn try get to a track you can practice on pre-meeting and just get used to driving it. Nothing like a road car or anything else youv'e driven.
You'll get alot of advice off different drivers and much of it will be opposites as everyone drives differently.
the black book method is best meassure everything before you start so you have a base. Change one thing at a time or you'll never know what affects what. If you dont like it you can always revert to your base setting and start again

You should write a book about all the knowledge you have. ph34r.gif

Just trying to help the lad out, he asked for advice i gave it. Whether he finds it useful or takes it on board is his decision.
Wish I knew what I did now when I bought my first car, I may still have been racing biggrin.gif tongue.gif

So its nothing to do with your driving Rich????????????????
And the fact ya dont do the basics like check tyre pressures, When I asked what you were running what was your reply?
" what ever they were 2 weeks ago"
Richy you should tell the lad your experiences, Ie how long your all singing racing engine lasted 2 meetings? Or what happened when you tried to change the front wishbone, compression strut and bottom arm you got with the car?
They didnt fit the car, so most of the spares you got were worthless.
What about the tyre sewn together with fishing line?

I knew their must be some reason to use Yokos.
Obviously easier to get the needle through. biggrin.gif

Your advice is spot on thompa, get as many spares as possible and make sure they fit.
We are on the third season and still have some good spares we got with the car.

Cheers Trimal, just hope the advice is some use. The amount of people who have bought second hand engines for good money only to see them go up in smoke is unreal.
Try and take someone who knows what they are looking at, unlike us when we started. Needless to say we gave up with the first car and it ended up on the scrap heap it was bent in 3 places and had been poorly maintained and dodgy repairs dont help. Bent rose joints and so on, we were chasing shadows and after alot of money still had a car that was uncompetitive and thus started a fresh.
