Now more well known for his "Bingleybuilt" F2s - supplied to and raced by many in the sport today - such as the Green family, the up and coming 375 Steven Murray and of course at the sport's higher echelons - 401 Barry Goldin.
But Bing did have quite a successful race career of his own in the 80's and 90's - until his awful crash in the 2001 Semi at Kings Lynn which ended his race career.
Anyway, Here's an interview I did with Daz in Feb 1991 - at the early stages of his F2 career......read on.
THE 622 DARREN BINGLEY PROFILE
R.H = Rob Hughes
D.B = Darren Bingley
E.B = Eddie Bingley (Darren's dad)
FULL NAME : Darren Andrew Bingley
AGE : 21
TOWN : Storth, Near Milnthorpre, Cumbria
OCCUPATION : Draftsman
ROAD CAR : A Ford Fiesta. It's second hand one that i'm actually picking up tonight as a birthday present. It's the first time that I've actually been able to afford a car!
FAVOURITE FOOD : It's gotta be chinese.
FAVOURITE DRINK : Apart of the local bitter... I would say Jack Daniels.
NEWSPAPER : The only paper I buy is Motoring News.
FAVOURITE TV PROGRAMME :
E.B : You daren't say Neighbours would you?
D.B : (Laughter) It's probably 'Only Fools and Horses.'
OTHER HOBBIES PASTIMES : I used to play golf a bit, but I don't have time for that now with stockcar racing.
STOCKCAR CAREER
D.B : My brother Steven started it off, going to watch at Warton, and then at Belle Vue. He got me to come down and watch and I sort of got bitten by it there and then. This was about 1984.
R.H : When did you actually start racing?
D.D : Steven had been racing Superbangers at Warton, then went into the Stockcars. He was getting a bit fed up with it at that time, and the way I got to buty it off him was through some compensation money I received being an innocent party in a car smash in which I nearly lost an arm! This was in 1986so i had only been watching stockcars for two years before starting racing (laughter.) I started racing before I passed by road test!
R.H : So.. you bought your first car off your brother. How much did you pay for that?
D.B : About £150 complete! it had a Ford Two Litre engine in it.
R.H : And what about tyres. Did you use ordinary road ones?
D.B : They weren't owt fantastic! Used allsorts, old rally tyres and the like and we cut our own tread. No money went into it at all really.
R.H : So how did your first car handle? Were you racing at Barrow and Warton?
D.B : I must have done more pirouettes than Torville and Deane! I was a bag of nerves!
R.H : How long did you have that first race car for?
D.B : I didn't even race it a full season - just did 7 or 8 meeting in 1987. it was 1988 that we decided to go into it proper and we built the second car that got me to Red Top.
R.H : Did it take long to build that second car?
D.B : About four months: from Christmas. All the running gear was new, coz we were going to do it properly this time. it had a 1600cc Ford cross-flow engine in it prepared by Paul Gardner - a superb engine. I spent nearly every penny I hadon it, it must have been over £1000. I won a few races with it in '88, but it was in '89 that it all came together.
E.B : We were doing great at Barrow and Warton.
D.B It was then that we got into Outlaws when Russell taylor started to come over and take us on at Barrow. It was Russell who introduced us to Outlaws. We'd never even heard of them beforehand. It was at the end of the '88 season that I first raced at Scunthorpe. Started as a Yellow Top. it was the second heat that I put Russell away... it got written that I gave Russell "the biggest stuffing of his life" in your magazine! (laughter). Ever since that day we've got on great. Enermies on the track, but he won't stop at anything to help you once off it.
R.H : So you started the 1989 season....
D.B : With the intention of doing Warton, Barrow and Scunthorpe.
E.B : Our aim was to win the Outlaw Points Championship which Russell Taylor had held. And our dream came true and he won it.
D.B ; We must have done over 35 meetings that year.
R.H : And won a few races too...?
D.B : Yeah, me and Robin Loxam won nearly all the finals at Barrow.
R.H : What of your most recent car that you raced as an F2 last year?
D.B : Well, the old car was becoming a bit battered and the Outlaws brought in a new engine rule, making it Pintos only so we decided to start a fresh for 1990 and built a brand new car.
E.B : We started building it in the October of '89.
R.H : How did you go about building that one?
D.B : We built up the car as normal and we got to know Pete Hall , asked him to bend a roll cage for us and he topped the chassis off with that. A new Paul Gardner two litre lump went into it all race prepared.
R.H : What can you do to the engine?
D.B : There's not alot that you can do. It's just how it's all put together. You're not allowed to polish the heads or anything like that. Everything's balanced - working the compements to their right tolerances. There's not alot of power in a two litre engine, but enough for the weight of the car.
R.H : First time out, how did it go?
D.B : Like nowt I'd had before! it were great at waton. It was a helluva lot lighter than anything they had been used to before round here. We did build it with the intention of racing F2 at some time.
E.B : It certainly caused a lot of interest.
D.B : I had a lot of success with it at Barrow and warton, though that meeting in May (1990) which you met up with us for the first time was in fact to be my last one with the Outlaws. I had already contacted Roy Goodman and he gave us the Blue Roof to start with.
R.H : So you moved into F2, lightened the car, got the 622 number and got a Blue Roof - and your first F2 meeting was the Northampton Qualifier with no less than 84 cars! You really threw yourself in at the deep end there didn't you?
E.B : That's what were were thinking as we drove down the motorway! (laughter.)
D.B : we experienced throttle trouble that day, something that took us till the GN to get fixed. It was all good experience though.
R.H : So you did 12 meetings in F2 for 1990... a Yellow Roof, but three race wins, not a bad score....
FAVOURITE TRACK
D.B : Definetely Crewe! They call it the Action Track. Rollover Capital UK! It's brilliant!
E.B : It's a superb track.
WORST TRACK
D.B : I haven't been to enough to decide really, though I didn't rate mynight at boston too highly! (laughter) I went straight out and straight into a fence post! But I reckon a change of luck there will probably change my mind.
R.H : What do you think of Northampton?
D.B : I love it - and hartlepool. Buxton's ok.
R.H : So you've got no aversion to tarmac - you want to conquer it?
D.B : Oh yeah. I'd like to win a race or two on tarmac this year.
BIGGEST INFLUENCE
D.B : Probably Russell Taylor and Brian Branson - who got us into all this as well!
MOST RESPECTED RIVAL
D.B : it's got to be Steve Green (90) and Rob Speak. I like racing against proper stockcar drivers.
BEST MEETING/EVENT
D.b : Warton's Championship meeting when I left them for dead with Hoosier Tyres on, and also the Silver Roof in outlaws at the end of the '89 season.
R.H : And in BriSCA?
D.B : Got to be my first race win when I took the consolation at Crewe. I was over the moon about that.
WORST INCIDENT
D.B : When Russell Taylor gave me the biggest stuffing of MY life! (laughter). another time was at Scunny when i went over a loose wheel, it was dark and dusty - no way I could avoid hitting it. All I saw was straight up in the air. I came down on my front bumper and then went end over end! I came to rest and then got hit by two cars. I got hurt, and there was nowt left of the car - but we got it ready to race at Warton the next day!!
DISLIKES ABOUT THE SPORT
D.D ; I haven't been in it long enough to say. i'd like to show that there is no North - South divide and that we are all just stockcar drivers out there to enjoy ourselves.
BIGGEST AMBITION
D.B : To get Red and keep it... and i'd love to win a final on tarmac. Other than that, just to take it as it comes.
R.H : Right, cheers Darren, that just about sums it up. All the best for 1991.
D.B : Thanks.

Cheers to Trav for alot of the results info
There all laid out as webpages so i was taking screen prints of them and thought the pages would take an age to load with all the images, so edited them all to text
I knew that BB_622 would soon upload a WEALTH of Bingley stats into this profile thread! The 622 results make interesting reading, reflecting Darren fortunes throughout the '90's. It's clear, I think, that Daz enjoyed his best fortunes in the early/mid '90's.
I'm looking forward to seeing a selection of the pictures that BB has of 622. LOVED the first batch BB! I hadn't seen a picture of the ol' Outlaw Flyer in ages!
